Meet our boyz...

You will have noticed that we have been a long time updating the page. That is because we have had quite an adventure. After Behr's passing, life lost its sparkle and it took some time to get back onto the rails. At first, I did not see chance for ever letting a Bernese into my heart again, but time soon knocked some sense into me and I realised that the reason God gave me such a big heart, was to accomodate the Berner family I need to love and nurture! I also knew I had to get a friend for Levi. He has been unbearably lonely! So, I knew exactly what I had to do. Karla, please help me! It was no time at all and Karla sent the greatest SMS of all time. "Sam, your puppy has been born". January 09 2011 @ lunch time. Wow! It took a long time and some of the world's most wonderful people to get our little Moose here, but we succeeded. I have to thank Dr Caroline Gibbs from the South African department of Agriculture, Dr Laura Lopez from Onderstepoort, Dr Elly Verduijn of the Central Veterinary Institute of Wageningen and Karla's vet, Dr van Dijk, not to forget the staff from Petsentransit. The stars of the adventure are Karla and Bert for helping us and putting up with our daunting excitement. However, my most tremendous respect and admiration rests with Karla's mom, who took over the socialisation and schooling of our Little Feller while we ran around organising the journey.
Our Moose is gorgeous. He has just the right amount of spunk to keep Levi and Tigger on their toes and enough respect to keep himself in HIS place. He has settled in here as we expected and we adore him. As we expected!

The Behr Chronicles...

We wanted to do something to commemorate Behr's life and give something to the dog community who loved him as we did. So, we came up with the idea of making a training disk to get newbies started with carting. We used Levi and Tigger as the main "actors". Although it was not actually acting. Neither of them had ever pulled a cart or been involved with carting. We decided to make short training videos of the two Boyz learning to cart and put a disk together, showing people how we got them from "zero to hero". It is very entertaining and most beneficial from every aspect of carting. Shows in detail how to train every step from day one to their first show. There are also patterns for harnesses and engineering tips to make carts. The disk will be available for sale by end of May 2011 If anyone is interested, please contact us on web@mymountaindog.com.

Come and meet our dogs... We have 3 male Bernese Mountain Dogs. Our Boyz, they would like to show you what they get up to. We show our dogs in working disciplines and Conformation shows, but most of all we love to hang out with our dogs and just have a good time....Click on Kodi, Max or Behr to meet them.

Dog Carting is what a Berner does best ....Sheepdogs herd, Bloodhounds trail, Rottweilers guard and Berners pull carts. The Bernese Mountain Dog takes to carting like a duck to water. In South Africa we do carting - most countries call it draughting. That is when your dog has to maneuver a load around a laid out course pulling a cart. It is stacks of fun for both the handler and the dog. Click here to visit our dog carting pages...

Schutzhund and the Bernese Mountain Dog We know he has a pretty face, but can he work? Our boys, Max and Kodi have both qualified IPO, Schutzhund, International Tracking Trials and South African Working Trails. Berners love to play and that means you can teach them just about anything ! Click here to read all about our working dogs....

We have created a few pages to help you design and build your own beautiful dog carts and harnesses. If you like, you can have a look at the various stages of building a cart. These pages on cart designs and Harness designs are a must see...

Visit this page and learn all about the breed standard. You will also be able to enjoy our unique interpretation of the "official" breed standard.Click here to read more...
