Maxxie is Kodi's brother. He is a very sweet, confident dog. He is happy to acknowledge Kodi as his pack leader and supports him loyally. Although Maxxie is a self-assured dog who can stand his own in any contest of strength, he does not have the desire to lead in his heart. It is Maxxie's "job" to teach the puppies to play and to respect Kodi. He loves the interaction and has formed an inseperable bond with little Behr. Maxxie is a gentle giant in the true sense of the word. His first instinct is to love and nurture. He is the perfect gentleman and there is no better dog to bring Behr up. He will teach him values and priciples that will stand Behr in good stead all his life. He loves tracking. This is probably his favourite pastime. He is always keen to track. His accuracy is unerring and once he puts his nose down, he becomes a lean, mean smelling machine! Of course, he goes a little faster than some judges like. In fact, he goes a lot faster than Linda likes, too. She sure looks funny, streaking along helplessly behind him. At least no-one can ever accuse her of giving extra commands. There is no time for that! Maxxie enjoys working and especially likes flyball. he loves the excitement of the release of the ball, grabbing it and racing with speed and power against the clock. He is very enthusiastic and catches the ball pretty much every time. And even if he doesn't, he still loves the game! Linda has trained Maxxie in Schutzhund and IPO. He has a very high prey drive and chasing the armed sleeve (or would that be the sleeved arm?) is very exciting for him. But in Schutzhund, his best exercise is the "speak". Maxxie can "speak" along with the best of them. He does not bark haphazardly or out of context. He COMMANDS that darned "helper" to listen to him, once and for all. I think he does the entire exercise for the satisfaction of getting that man to simply pay attention and do as he is told! And then he laughs. As only a Berner can laugh! The one thing that Maxxie can do, which I cannot imagine he will ever stand in second place over, is relax. He knows how to get Comfortable. He enjoys sleeping with Norman, his Teddy Bear companion, but best of all, he just likes hanging out with Mumsie, Linda's mom. She adores him and they spend all the daytime hours together while Linda goes to work. He watches all the soaps and knows their signature tunes. When "Bold and Beautiful" comes on, he knows they will get tea and biscuits. When "Days of our Lives" is on, he must be very quiet. This is a favourite. BUT when "All my Children" plays, Maxxie relocates to the window. This is the highlight of his day. Linda will be home soon. He watches for her and when he sees her in the driveway, he speeds downstairs to welcome her home. He is double excited, because Linda will spend a while at home and then .... best part of the day..... he gets to visit with his brothers, Kodi and Behr!!!!!! Well, Behr is not his biological brother, but he loves him like family, so that will make him a brother by default!
Maxxie is still the sweet boy he has always been. The years have crept up on him without much warning. However, the grey threads peeping out from behind the black strands on his nose identify him as entering his “next phase”. Maxxie was born a puppy and has matured into a gentleman!
Last year (2006) Maxxie was not very well. He was struggling with severe joint pains.. This active Boy would rather lie in the shades of a tree than play with his mom. He was indulgent of his best friend, Behr, but did not really want to play with him. His vet, Dr Peter Kroon, recommended a session with Chiropractor, Dr Neville Dugmore. Miracle of miracles! Dr Dugmore, an experienced practitioner, who, (apart from his human practice!) specializes in horses and dogs, worked his magic on Maxxie. The results were amazing. After one session, Maxxie was a new Man. His interest in life was as strong as ever. Then the great “THING” came along. Behr’s pal, Euro was learning to dance. His mom, June, introduced Linda to this wonderful, fun, sport. Maxxie is a dancer of note. He has blossomed in this game! The shy boy has become a star. He does star routines at demonstrations, participating with his friends, KC and Euro. He has entered an international competition per video and was placed third in the world in the Sassy Seniors” class. He was the only Beginner in this class, so that speaks worlds of his talent and success!
