Behr and his Bruvvers Go on Holiday.

While we were in Oudtshoorn, we went for a walk on a real suspension bridge. It was thrilling. My mom caried me across and as she walked, she stomped her feet and soon the whole bridge was swinging. We were "miles" off the ground and the world was swaying around us. It was stunning. We had a lot of fun on that bridge!

As soon as we got to Oudtshoorn, we went to our chalet in Cango Mountain Resort. The Big Boyz were very nice to me and took me to look at all the places they remembered from last time. Oh, I was so excited. This was such a wonderful place. The smells.... I cannot describe it! AND to be treated as "one of the Boyz..." That was the best!

Maxxie took me with him on the path that went up the mountain. I was a bit nervous to go without my mom, because I never go anywhere without her. But Maxxie said it was okay. We were allowed to go here. So I went with him. We were very important! Together we examined "stuff".

My mom was a bit worried about us wandering off while everyone was unpacking, so she suggested we have a little rest before the good stuff started. At first I did not think I was very tired. But I was soon fast asleep. It was so quiet up here. Where we live in Port Elizabeth it is not so quiet. There is a highway nearby, so there is always the sound of cars going by. But here there is just quiet. And birds calling and leaves rustling. Very peaceful.

Once everything was settled, we went down to the main caravan park to walk off our stiff legs. It was too beautiful. Maxxie had told me about the soft grass and the oak leaves. And the maple leaves and the swimming pool. But I did not know how it would look until we got here. I really liked it!

The spring that ran through the resort looked most inviting, but my mom said he water was running too fast over the rocks. I was not allowed to get in. At first I was disappointed, but there was so much to do, I soon forgot about it.

I had the best time when we went for a walk up the mountain. Kodi and Maxxie came along too. It was very exciting. Some of the places were dark and a bit scary. But I was not going to let anyone know I was scared. Not a bit of it! If Kodi and Maxxie were going to walk there, then, so would I. Very carefully, but still......!

In some of the places, they just watched me doing the best I could. I battled abit through the undergrowth in places, but I knew if things got tough, my mom would help me.

Our Cabin was built with this lake as our front garden.

.... And then, in some places, I had to go down very steep rocks. It was very slippery! But I soon figured out the shortcuts. Or at least, when I was battling a lot, Kodi helped me out. He is very nice to me. I think he likes me!

Kodi, Maxxie and I enjoyed basking in the late afternoon sunlight. It was heavenly! I told my mom I was having such a marvellous time!

And Maxxie and my mom were also always there. I think everyone was taking care of me. But I felt very independant.
Once we got into this clearing I was very tired. But I felt sooooo at peace with Nature. My mom said I looked very sweet. I do, rather, don't I?
When we got back to the cabin, my mom sat with me for a while, combing the grass seeds and twigs and leaves out of my coat. She says it was because I am so short, I mopped up the mountain floor and brought all the loose vegetation home with me. I didn't mind. I was so tired and it was nice to have my mom stroking me and gently combing my coat. I enjoyed the attention.
On Saturday morning we got up bright and early. First thing my mom took me outside to go pee. Goodness gracious! There was a blanket of frost covering the ground. I had got used to Port Elizabeth weather. This does not include frost. It barely includes cold! Well, I could not pee in that freezing undergrowth. I told my mom it was not going to happen. So, everyone quickly got ready and we went into town where it was MUCH warmer. I peed there!
On Sunday morning before we left the resort, Maxxie and I had a good play on the lawns near the caravan park. It was great fun. I love Maxxie. He likes playing with me. That is cool!

Every year in June my mom and dad (and Linda) go to Oudtshoorn for a short holiday. Oudtshoorn is a small country town about 400km west of Port Elizabeth in South Africa. It is one of South Africa's tourism centres, being the location of the world famous Cango Caves and of course, home to the Ostrich. Arguably the most beautiful ugly bird known to man! They are huge "chickens" often likened to the Emu. But their feathers .... well... glamorous can describe them? Their legs.. Jissss! Muscular??????

This year, as always, we set off early on Friday morning. Kodi told me what was going on, so I was keen to sit up and take note. As we left Port Elizabeth, heading west to start our adventure, I felt very important. I no longer have to wear that dreadful bra. (Imagine my mom making me wear that! Best we forget about it quickly!) I am big enough to see out of the window and I am very proud of my new collar. At last I am starting to look like a Big Boy! I watched the scenery skim past for as long as I could. Then I lay down and very soon the sound of the purring engine had me in the soundest of sleeps.

I was allowed to go off by myself to explore the woods around us. Well, not entirely by myself. My mom was there too, but the Big Boyz stayed with my dad this time. I had a whale of a time. But some of the noises were a bit scary. The frogs had started grunting in the lake nearby and I was not sure of that....
I heard a mysterious noise and my in-built sensibilities told me to sit down and pretend I was not there. Hopefully, if it was a lion or a tiger, it would go away. But it was not either of those things. It was a bird in the overhead tree. I felt a bit silly!
Now would be a good time for someone to think of carryng me??????
I told Maxxie that mom had combed me, but he said it was okay. She would comb Them as well. She always did. So then I felt good for him.
After the near frost-bite episode, I had to warm my tootsies up. So, I hit my mom's warm bed....Real comfie!
I was feeling a bit out of sorts. Needing to "go" and all, you know! So, I had to calm myself down somehow. And Linda's shoes are so ..... Decadent!
When we got back to the chalet on Saturday afternoon, my mom took us swimming. Oh, my word, was that fantastic. I was a bit nervous at first. Splashing around in the mud in the woods was fun, but THIS.... WOW! I did not have any problems. My mom was so excited. I got into the water with her and then I said "come on, let;s swim..." The Big Boyz thought I was very clever. Kodi just looked at me and thought.."Yup! That is my boy!" I think I can swim better than Maxxie, but I won't say anything to him.
After our swim, my mom took us to the lawns nearby for a walk to dry off. Kodi was very nice to me and showed me where the best places were to walk in the sun. He helped me to stay in the sun so I would not get cold. He is always so clever. He is my hero, you know.
Kodi showed me some cool stuff. He can play on all the kidz apparatus in the playground. He hopped onto the wooden jungle jim, nimble as a flea! I wish I could do that. Still, I managed to get on to the first level. One day when I am big enough, Kodi said that he will show me how to get up here. Wow, I can't wait!
Before going back to the chalet, my mom threw the ball for us a few times. I can fetch the ball real good. My mom thinks I am very clever. I can even find it if I did not see where it landed. That is because I am clever. That was what my mom said anyway!
On the way out of Oudtshoorn, we stopped at the Crocodile farm. At first I was scared I would have to go in! But my mom just took us to meet the very nice staff. Ooooh, those gurls wear the best perfume. Nothing smells quite so good as a good smelling gurl! They liked all of us, but of course, I was the cutest, so I got the best cuddles. Lucky me!
And then only too soon, all that was left to do was for me to relax and enjoy the ride home. And remember the good times I had just had. When Kodi and Maxxie said it was the best holiday ever, they were not wrong!
